Year-end tax planning: what to ask your CPA before December 31

Most of what changes a tax bill happens before the year ends, so talk to your CPA in the fall. Bring a year-to-date profit and loss, ask what decisions would change your picture before December 31, and ask what they need from you to close the books quickly.

Questions to ask your CPA

  1. Where will my profit land this year, roughly?
  2. Which decisions should I make before December 31?
  3. What do you need from me, and by when?
  4. Should we adjust my estimated payments?

These are my opinions, not gospel. Take this to a CPA who cares about you.

Education, not tax or legal advice. Talk with a CPA about your own situation.
